We’ve landed! After 5 days in Cuernavaca we feel like we have settled into this beautiful home where we are guests of Howard and Betsy Friend – who some of you might know from our Philadelphia Pachamama community and from Howard’s past friendship with Reb Zalman.

It is a beautiful house, high on the hill, below an ocate pine forest. Of course, we are also surrounded by dogs! Every house in the neighborhood seems to have at least 2 or 3 dogs – we have 3 – and of course as soon as one dog barks — at a motorcycle, someone walking by, maybe a nighttime raccoon? – they all begin to bark. We are learning to sleep through most of the barking. We’re in MEXICO!
The “Friends” run a small family foundation – Karitas – which is committed to “Building Bridges & Celebrating Community”. Erik and Griselda have been nurturing this work for about 25 years – and are introducing us to their wonderful network of interesting and kind people.
Saturday we offered a workshop on the Joanna Macy work that we love so much – and were thrilled that 14 people showed up in our living room.
We now have invitations to visit an old hippy eco village – which of course, we can’t wait to visit! — and meet with some new friends to talk about “becoming Elders.”
Yesterday, Sunday, we went with Howard, Betsy and Erik to hear the sermon of a local, very progressive Catholic priest. An amazingly well attended church – where we were welcomed within the sermon which focused on being curious about other’s beliefs and sharing conversations – rather than trying to convince someone else of your thinking. Mordechai gave a wonderful teaching, translated by Erik, about the “Breath of Life” and how we all share in that one Breath of Life.
The “not fun” part of yesterday was shopping at the SuperRama – to buy “essentials” that are not easily found in Ahautepec. UGH! SuperRama where everything is packaged, pricey — available and clean! Not “my Mexico” – but I do appreciate the oil butter, crackers, cheese and Tequila that we did buy.
It still feels difficult to gone while so much is happening in the U.S. – but we are hoping to carry the message of resistance as we travel and we continue to post on Facebook and elsewhere while we have good internet. We miss you all – our community, our families – who are so precious to us both,
Mordechai and Lynne
